Little Wandle- Letters and Sounds
As
part of this phonics programme, the children are assessed and given carefully matched decodable books. These books are used in school 3 times a week during the children’s reading lessons. Lesson 1 focuses on decoding the text and discussing key vocabulary, lesson 2 focuses on prosody (reading with expression) and lesson 3 focuses on the comprehension skills.

Once the children have had their 3 reading lessons in school, these books will be sent home for them to read to you. The aim is for the children to read these books with 95% fluency before they are brought home to read.

Books will be brought home on a Friday. Each Friday the children will bring home their new reading book alongside a book they have chosen that they would like you to read to them (a sharing book). Please see the attached document for further information.

This scheme structures the phases/levels differently to the Twinkl programme we were previously using; therefore, the phase or level of your child’s reading book may be different to that of the Rhino Readers.

Zoom:

A very busy and enjoyable half term.

  • Rainbow class have had a great start to the new school year and for many the start of their journey through Alkborough Primary School.
  • The children have enjoyed 'drawing club' as part of our literacy sessions. We learnt some fantastic vocabulary linked to The Little Red hen story and then even baked our own bread. It was delicious!!
  • We had a great time at William's den in the second week of term getting to know our new class and school friends and enjoyed an interactive PSHE online session delivered by SCARF (our whole school PSHE scheme).
  • We learnt the poem 'Falling apples' as part of our Autumn topic and created some colourful artwork.
  • We have learnt 16 new sounds and 5 tricky words during our phonics sessions.
  • During childrens mental health week we have shared a lovely book called 'find your happy' and discussed what makes us happy.
  • We had a brilliant first aid session with the Mini First Aid team.
  • We helped decorate the schools chirstmas tree.
  • All the children enjoyed the balance bike session.
  • The children enjoyed making play dough.
  • We have been busy practicing our fine motor skills.
  • We loved having a teddy bears picnic.

Science Investigation 2024
Rainbow class had lots of fun completing our whole school science investigation this afternoon! They were challenged to see how far they could stretch a curly wurly in five minutes. The children showed some fantastic teamwork and techniques. Well done Rainbow class!

Mental health awareness day
We
have shared the worryasaurus story, made paper cup telephones to connect with others and decorated biscuits- some for us and some for our friends in class 1.

Anti-bullying week
We shared a story for anti-bullying week and made puppets that were all different.
